Over 8,400 Explosive Devices Destroyed by Ukrainian Demining Teams in August 2025

In August 2025, demining units of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense cleared 5,973 hectares of liberated territories contaminated with explosive remnants of war caused by Russia’s aggression, according to Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety on September 1.
Safety was restored across 5,653 hectares of farmland, 7.6 kilometers of roads, 15 kilometers of power lines, and nearly 67 kilometers of railway tracks.
Specialists detected and destroyed 8,410 explosive devices. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, more than 458,000 such items have been neutralized.
The clearance of liberated areas involves demining groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, explosive units of the National Police, and pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service.

Humanitarian demining in Ukraine, in accordance with the Law on Mine Action, is carried out exclusively by certified mine action operators.
By June 2025, the territory of Ukraine contaminated with landmines and other explosive remnants of war had reached 139,000 square kilometers—an area larger than England (130,000 km²), according to the Italian think tank Institute for International Political Studies.
This accounts for nearly a quarter of the country’s landmass, making Ukraine the most mine-contaminated country in the world since World War II. More than 6 million Ukrainians live in or near these hazardous zones, with the agricultural regions of Kharkiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia particularly hard hit.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine is set to launch an International Information and Innovation Training Hub on Humanitarian Demining to raise public awareness about the dangers of landmines and other explosive remnants of war.
