Norwegian defense company Radionor Communications will open a representative office and potentially a full-service center in Ukraine, expanding its direct support for the country’s drone warfare efforts amid Russia’s ongoing war of aggression, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on July 10.

Deputy Defense Minister Valerii Churkin met with Radionor CEO Raymond Søderholm in Kyiv to discuss deeper cooperation, particularly in the field of electronic warfare (EW)-resistant communication systems. Radionor has long served as a key supplier of jam-resistant communications equipment for Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

“There is an urgent need for jam-resistant communication technologies, especially for drone operations in Ukraine,” Søderholm said during the meeting.

“Together with our Ukrainian partners and with the support of the Norwegian government, we expect to deliver more systems. Our goal is to enhance UAV capabilities and help train the Ukrainian military in their use.”

The two sides also addressed the growing challenges posed by Russia’s use of advanced electronic warfare systems on the front line and discussed ways to overcome them through better technology integration and field servicing.

Churkin emphasized the strategic importance of Radionor’s decision to establish a local presence: “Having a company office in Ukraine will simplify the maintenance of their equipment, allow for professional training of Ukrainian troops, and ultimately make the use of this technology as effective as possible.”

The planned service center would support Radionor’s growing portfolio of battlefield equipment in Ukraine, much of it designed to withstand Russian jamming and support secure communications for drones, frontline troops, and command posts.

Earlier, Norway sent its F-35 fighter jets to Poland this fall to reinforce NATO’s air and missile defense along the Alliance’s eastern flank.

The jets were deployed to Rzeszów Airport, supporting the protection of Polish airspace and securing one of the most important logistical hubs for delivering international aid to Ukraine.
