Peskov: Negotiations With Ukraine “On Pause,” Blames Europe for Blocking Peace

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine at the level of negotiating groups are currently stalled, Russian state media RIA-Novosti reported on September 12.
“For now, it would be fair to say there is a pause,” Peskov told reporters when asked about the state of communications between Moscow and Kyiv, according to Russian state media RIA-Novosti.
He stressed that channels of communication between the two sides still technically exist, but noted they are not being actively used.
“Our negotiators have the opportunity to communicate through these channels, but for now, I would rather say there is a pause,” he added.
Peskov also claimed that Russia remains open to a peaceful resolution but blamed European governments for obstructing the process.

“The Russian side maintains its readiness to move forward on the path of peaceful dialogue, on a peaceful search for a settlement. But the fact that the Europeans interfere is indeed true—it’s no secret to anyone,” he said.
When asked whether the talks had reached a dead end, the Kremlin spokesperson urged caution. “Here, of course, one should not wear rose-colored glasses and expect the negotiation process to deliver lightning-fast results,” he said.
Earlier, during a visit to Uzhhorod, EU Council President António Costa emphasized that peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine must be conducted with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“The time has come for peace in Ukraine,” Costa said, noting that US President Donald Trump had created new dynamics for peace talks.
Costa further criticized Russian leader Vladimir Putin for repeatedly delaying a decision and intensifying attacks on Ukrainian cities.
“This is a bad sign,” Costa remarked, adding, “If you want peace, go to President Zelenskyy and start peace negotiations.”
