Sikorski and Rubio Discuss Ukraine War Endgame in Miami, Stress Strong US Presence on NATO’s Eastern Flank

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met in Miami to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and a “lasting and just end to the war,” underscoring Poland’s insistence on preserving US military presence in Europe.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Miami on the prospects of achieving a “lasting and just end to the war in Ukraine,” according to Radio Svoboda on September 2.
According to the Polish Foreign Ministry, the discussions focused not only on Ukraine but also on broader bilateral cooperation in security and energy.
Rubio underlined that Poland would have a role in shaping future international security guarantees for Ukraine. He also emphasized the significance of maintaining a strong US military presence on NATO’s eastern flank as a deterrent against further Russian aggression.

Sikorski stressed that the international community must clearly understand the objectives of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He argued that only by doing so can a fair and sustainable resolution to the war be reached.
“We must secure peace on terms that guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty and Europe’s stability,” the Polish official noted.
The meeting highlighted Warsaw’s position as one of Kyiv’s most consistent allies. Poland has repeatedly pushed for increased NATO engagement in Eastern Europe and has strongly supported Western military and financial assistance for Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that Poland is preparing to host Iron Defender-25, its largest military exercise of 2025, involving over 30,000 troops, Abrams tanks, Chunmoo rocket systems, and JAGIC integration across land, sea, air, and cyberspace.
