Poland to Receive French Rafale Jets for NATO Air Defense, Macron Confirms

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France is sending three Rafale fighter jets to Poland to help defend the country’s airspace and reinforce NATO’s eastern flank following recent Russian drone incursions.
The statement was made via X on September 11.
“I have decided to deploy three Rafale fighter jets to contribute to the protection of Polish airspace and of NATO’s Eastern Flank together with our Allies,” Macron wrote.
The French President noted that he had discussed the decision with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whose country is also contributing to the eastern flank’s defense.

“The security of the European continent is our top priority. We will not yield to Russia’s growing intimidation,” Macron stressed.
Meanwhile, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that NATO allies, including Sweden, have already provided immediate reinforcements following the Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace on the night of September 9–10. Speaking on TVN24, he underscored that the allied response was both swift and coordinated.
“Each such escalation makes us more united, not divided,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
Earlier, Germany dismissed Moscow’s assertion that Russian drones crossing into Polish airspace overnight were the result of a “navigation error,” warning that Berlin and its allies would respond firmly to what it considers a deliberate escalation.
