Poland to Send Military Experts to Ukraine for Drone Defense Training Amid Rising Russian Threats

Poland will send its military representatives to Ukraine to learn how to shoot down drones, marking a new step in defense cooperation between the two neighbors, Reuters reported in September 11.
The decision comes after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk accepted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal, according to informed sources cited by Reuters.
According to Reuters, the move follows recent Russian provocations, when several drones crossed into Polish airspace. Warsaw confirmed that its forces, with NATO backing, shot down multiple UAVs, while Polish leaders described the incident as a deliberate test by Moscow.

In response, Zelenskyy urged Ukraine’s allies to reassess their air defense strategies. He noted that Western systems such as the US-made Patriot, while highly effective, are too costly to counter Russia’s mass use of cheap drones. Instead, he called for multi-layered approaches similar to those Ukraine has developed under constant attack.
“No one in the world has enough missiles to shoot down all different types of drones,” Zelenskyy said.
Speaking in Kyiv alongside visiting Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Zelenskyy said Ukraine was “open and ready” to assist its allies in strengthening their defenses, as reported by Reuters.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Dronarium Academy and Gnizdo Ltd launched a joint venture in Poland. The initiative will establish training centers to prepare operators of diverse unmanned systems, with a particular focus on countering Russian Shahed suicide drones.
