Putin Orders Ceasefire in Ukraine From May 8 to May 11 During Victory Day Celebrations

Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced on April 28 a ceasefire in Ukraine during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, according to a statement from the Kremlin press service.
“Based on humanitarian considerations, and by decision of Vladimir Putin, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a ceasefire will be in effect during the 80th Victory Day anniversary—from midnight on May 8 until midnight on May 11. All military operations will be suspended during this period,” the statement reads.
The Kremlin wrote that Ukraine should follow this example.
“In the event of ceasefire violations by Ukraine, the Russian Armed Forces will respond appropriately and effectively,” the statement added.
On April 20, Russian forces attacked a humanitarian evacuation vehicle with FPV drones near Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region, violating their own declared “Easter truce.” The vehicle belonged to the “Proliska” humanitarian mission. Several people were injured in the strike.
On April 27, it was reported that US President Donald Trump has pledged to Estonian President Alar Karis that the United States will continue its participation in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
