Russia Claims First-Ever Strike on Ukrainian Positions With Drones Controlled From Moscow

Russia claimed to strike a Ukrainian position in Chasiv Yar with a drone that was controlled from Moscow, Russian state-owned RIA Novosti reported on April 15.
According to the outlet, a Russian “Ovod” FPV drone operator has struck a Ukrainian target near Chasiv Yar while operating remotely from Moscow, using the new “Orbita” control system.
The drone was reportedly prepared for launch by a unit from the “Española” brigade stationed near Chasiv Yar. It flew over 11 kilometers from its launch point to the target and successfully struck it. According to developers cited by RIA Novosti, the “Orbita” system allows operators to control drones and conduct strikes from virtually anywhere in the world.
“For the first time ever, today saw the combat use of a drone [operated from Moscow] with a successful strike in Chasiv Yar. We tested two things. The first was the ability to control the drone with a mouse. It works.” said the commander and founder of the volunteer Española brigade, known by the call sign “Ispanets,” in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The second and most important was to check the communication capability. We were over a thousand kilometers away from the event, and the operation was successful for the first time”
The news agency claims that Ispanets was in Moscow, alongside the drone operator. Meanwhile, Andrey Ivanov, the creator of the Ovod, was leading a team of engineers near Chasiv Yar.
“The task we set for ourselves, remote control, has been accomplished. We reached the target. For the test mission, I’d rate it a 4.5 out of 5. I believe the intermediate task has been achieved,” Ivanov told RIA Novosti.
Previously, the Ukrainian military outlet Militarnyi stated that Russia’s defense industry has ramped up production of its new 2S43 Malva self-propelled howitzers.
