Russia Continues Its Second Day of Strikes on Ukraine. So Far, Over 10 People Have Been Killed

On August 27, regional authorities reported that Russian attacks across Ukraine have resulted in at least four deaths and 16 injuries.

This marks the second consecutive morning of extensive Russian strikes. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted five Kh-101 cruise missiles and 60 Shahed drones during the night. Russian forces launched a total of three “Kinzhal” ballistic missiles, one “Iskander-M” missile, one “Iskander-K” cruise missile, five Kh-101 missiles, and 81 Shahed drones.

  • Kryvyi Rih: A missile strike on a hotel in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Region, resulted in at least two fatalities and five injuries. According to Governor Serhii Lysak, several residential buildings, shops, and vehicles were damaged. As of the morning of August 27, search operations are ongoing, with two people possibly trapped under the rubble.

  • Zaporizhzhia: In Zaporizhzhia, two people were killed and four were injured in a drone attack, reported Ivan Fedorov, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration. He added that seven drone strikes were recorded overnight, damaging several homes and causing a fire in a field.

  • Kyiv and Surroundings: In Kyiv Region, the air defense forces successfully intercepted several drones and missiles, stated Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration. According to him, there were no direct damages or casualties in Kyiv. An air raid alert was issued, and around 10 drones were downed near the capital.

  • Khmelnytskyi and Rivne: Explosions were reported in Khmelnytskyi and Rivne. In Khmelnytskyi, the air defense system worked on drones, while Rivne was targeted with “Kinzhal” missiles aimed at energy infrastructure. Military sources indicate that the attack on Rivne involved “Kinzhal” missiles targeting energy facilities.

    In response to the attacks, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated: “The rescue operation continues at the sites of strikes and debris falls in the regions of Ukraine hit by the Russian attack last night. All services are involved in clearing the debris. Despite the effective work of our air defense, four people have been killed and 16 injured. My condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. The enemy used more than 90 air targets against civilian populations and infrastructure, including 81 Shahed drones and various types of missiles. We will definitely respond to Russia for this and all other attacks. Crimes against humanity cannot go unpunished.”

According to the operational headquarters, Russia used three “Kinzhal” ballistic missiles, one “Iskander-M” missile, five Kh-101 cruise missiles, and 81 Shahed-type drones. Yurii Ihnat, spokesperson for the Air Force of Ukraine, reported that the Ukrainian air defense intercepted five Kh-101 missiles and 60 drones.

Previous Day’s Attacks

On August 26, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, the attack involved 236 missiles and drones, most of which were intercepted by Ukrainian air defense. The strikes caused significant damage to energy facilities, including the Kyiv HPP, resulting in seven deaths and 47 injuries, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), the attack resulted in seven deaths, including two who died in the hospital, and 47 injuries, including four children born in 2014, 2017, and 2024.

The extensive damage from the attacks has also affected Ukraine’s rail network. “Ukrzaliznytsia” (Ukrainian Railways) announced that several trains are experiencing delays today due to repairs needed after the bombardments on August 26. Despite continuous overnight work by the railway’s electrical teams to restore damaged sections of track, the schedule for trains has been impacted.
