Russia Launches Deadly Strikes on Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Dnipro, and Chernihiv, Causing Casualties and Power Outages

Russia launched multiple strikes across Ukraine on April 16-17, targeting the cities of Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Dnipro, as well as the Chernihiv region, causing widespread damage, casualties, and power outages.

On the evening of April 16, Russian forces launched a guided aerial bomb strike on Zaporizhzhia, resulting in the destruction of a prayer house, with three people confirmed dead and 13 injured, according to the head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov.

The prayer house, located in one of Zaporizhzhia's districts, was severely damaged in the attack. Preliminary reports indicate that the bomb strike targeted the area with controlled air bombs, causing damage to several other infrastructure and residential buildings.

The attack also caused damage to an energy facility in the Chernihiv region, resulting in power outages affecting approximately 6,000 customers in the city of Chernihiv, as reported by Chernihivoblenergo.

Additionally, Russian forces launched strikes on Odesa, targeting port infrastructure and the Danube Biosphere Reserve. Fires broke out in the affected areas. According to the State Emergency Service (SES), no casualties have been reported in this attack.

Meanwhile, more than 20 attacks were carried out by Russian forces on two districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region, SES reported. In the Novooleksandrivska community of Dnipro, two men were injured in a strike, while a gymnasium, a private house, and a car were damaged.

In Dnipro city, the strike hit a transportation enterprise and a high-rise building, sparking a fire that was promptly extinguished by emergency services.

Just a day earlier, Russia conducted one of its most extensive air attacks on Ukraine in recent months, launching over 700 missiles and drones within a 24-hour period.

The assault targeted numerous sites, resulting in civilian casualties in several cities, with Kyiv suffering the most significant damage.
