Russia Pushes New T-90MS Tank Production With India 25 Years After First Deal

Rosoboronexport said it is prepared to assist India in launching production of the T-90MS at existing facilities already manufacturing earlier T-90 variants, according to Defense Mirror on February 17.
In 2019, India signed a $2.8 billion agreement to license-produce 464 T-90MS tanks under the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The company added that locally produced components and ammunition could accelerate the rollout. No new contract has been formally announced.
First publicly displayed in 2011, the T-90MS represents an export evolution of the T-90 family.
It is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore gun capable of firing guided missiles up to five kilometers, supported by explosive reactive armor and the Kalina fire-control system.
Power comes from a 1,130-horsepower V-92S2F diesel engine, providing an estimated range of 550 km and a top speed between 60 and 72 km/h.
The tank uses a three-person crew, an automated loader, and redesigned ammunition storage with blowout panels intended to improve survivability.
Russia’s latest proposal signals an effort to extend long-standing defense cooperation with India while reinforcing the industrial base supporting T-90 production.
Earlier, reports emerged that because of the losses, Russian tanks are suffering in Ukraine, the T-90MS main battle tank that was displayed at the International Defence Exhibition in Abu Dhabi was redeployed to the frontline.
