Russia Sets Up First Drone Command Center to Guard Nuclear Submarine Stronghold in Pacific

Russia’s Navy has established its first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control center in Kamchatka, aimed at expanding operations for reconnaissance and strike drones in the region.
According to Defense Express on August 11, the new facility will coordinate the operation of Forpost and Orion drones, aiming to monitor activity and enhance security along the Northern Sea Route and around a strategic nuclear submarine base.
The center is also tasked with collecting and analyzing intelligence data gathered by these UAVs.
Russian state media report that the development is part of a broader plan to create a network of platforms for UAV deployment in the Far East. The facility is expected to provide continuous surveillance over designated areas and support the secure deployment of nuclear submarines into the Pacific Ocean.

The move comes shortly after the United States deployed two Ohio-class nuclear-armed submarines near Russian territory in response to recent statements by Russian officials.
Satellite imagery from earlier, showed that Russia had installed anti-drone nets over one of its nuclear submarines and piers at the Rybachiy base in Kamchatka, indicating increased concern over the protection of key military assets.
Military analysts note that Kamchatka’s location is critical for controlling not only the Northern Sea Route but also access to the Bering Strait and nearby Arctic territories.
The addition of a UAV command center is expected to strengthen Russia’s ability to maintain a constant aerial presence in these areas, a capability that was previously reliant on manned aircraft.
Earlier, satellite imagery from Umbra Space showed a pier at Russia’s Rybachiy nuclear submarine base in Kamchatka bent out of position after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami. While no submarines were damaged, experts warned that such events could pose future risks to the Pacific Fleet.
