Russia Uses Fake Journalist Invitations to Spread Propaganda on Ukraine Fronts

Russian propaganda is circulating provocative statements about granting foreign journalists access to Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Kupiansk, in what analysts say is an attempt to portray Russia as “humane and peace-loving,” the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) reported on November 5.
On November 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that foreign journalists were “showing great interest” in the proposal, while accusing Ukraine of “obstructing Putin’s initiative.”
Peskov also alleged that Ukraine was attempting to conceal the “difficult situation of its troops.”

“Such rhetoric is yet another propaganda manipulation by the Kremlin aimed at creating the illusion of Russia’s ‘humanity and peacefulness’ and accusing Ukraine of obstructing Russia’s pseudo-humanitarian proposals,” the CCD said in a statement.
The Center noted that invitations sent to German journalists came from Volodymyr Serhienko, a former aide to a member of Germany’s Alternative for Germany party, Yevgeny Schmidt.
“According to public information, he may have been recruited by the FSB and is carrying out tasks for Russian intelligence services under the guise of journalistic activity,” the CCD added.
Earlier, a Russian military court handed down a 14-year prison sentence to 21-year-old Yana Suvorova, the administrator of the Telegram channel “Melitopol tse Ukraina” (“Melitopol is Ukraine”).
