Russian Losses Near Pokrovsk Exceed Casualties from Entire Second Chechen War

The Russian army has lost 7,000 soldiers irretrievably and a total of 15,000 troops—including the wounded and missing—on the Pokrovsk front, RBC Ukraine reported, citing Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine’s operational-strategic group “Khortytsia,” on February 6.
Trehubov highlighted that, according to Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russian losses in the Pokrovsk sector alone have now surpassed the total number of Russian casualties during the entire Second Chechen War.
“Russia lost 6,000 soldiers throughout the entire Second Chechen War,” Trehubov said.
“In just one month near Pokrovsk, Russian casualties have already exceeded that number.”
Despite their heavy losses, Russian forces continue to throw reserves into the battle, trying to encircle Pokrovsk.
Trehubov added that if the Russians manage to cut off supply routes to the city from the west or southwest it could ease the situation in the sector for the Russian army.
“But for now, they are failing. Russia is losing vast amounts of troops and equipment just trying to hold onto small villages southwest of Pokrovsk.”
According to Trehubov, the Pokrovsk direction remains the most active combat zone, with 24 Russian assaults reported in the past 24 hours. Russian forces continue to push south and southwest of the city in an attempt to seize ground.
“The Toretsk direction saw nine attacks near Toretsk, Dolievka, and Shcherbinovka, including urban combat within Toretsk itself,” Trehubov detailed.
Earlier, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the “Nemesis” unit of the Unmanned Systems Forces, destroyed a Russian howitzer on the Pokrovsk front.
