A Russian MiG-29 fighter jet was involved in an accident in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, on August 24. The aircraft struck a metal pole while being transported through the city at night, according to Armenian media reports.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. local time on Arshakunyats Avenue. After hitting the pole, the jet also collided with a roadside fence.
Armenian police and military police units cordoned off the area, restricting traffic on the route leading to Erebuni Airport. No injuries were reported.
The aircraft involved was identified as a MiG-29A with tail number “15 Red” (RF-92181, factory number 2960526360), produced in 1989 and stationed at Russia’s 3624th Air Base in Erebuni, which operates under the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
The Erebuni base is the last site where Russia continues to operate the MiG-29A variant, which has been gradually retired from service in recent years.
According to open sources, this particular fighter was last recorded in flight in 2022, suggesting it may have been in transit following decommissioning.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Security Service carried out a drone strike on the Saky airbase in occupied Crimea, destroying a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet and damaging several Su-24 bombers.
