Russian State TV Reveals Strategy to Manipulate Trump in Moscow’s Favor

A Russian state television commentator has suggested that Moscow should seek to force Donald Trump into making decisions beneficial to Russia, emphasizing that Washington remains an adversary despite any diplomatic efforts, according to Newsweek on February 3.
Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of National Defense, told 60 Minutes that any effort by Moscow to engage with the new US administration must take into account Washington’s ultimate objective of undermining and weakening Russia.
His remarks, shared on social media by journalist Julia Davis, reflect a cautious perspective among Russian commentators regarding whether diplomatic ties between Moscow and Washington could improve under Trump compared to the Biden administration.
Korotchenko described Trump as a “predator,” arguing that despite differences in approach, the US remains fundamentally opposed to Russian interests. He pointed to Trump’s past remarks about acquiring Greenland as evidence of expansionist ambitions and suggested that Moscow should consider these tendencies when shaping its interactions with Washington.
Additionally, Korotchenko highlighted the geopolitical risks surrounding China, claiming that some within the Chinese military may not fully grasp the potential for US actions against Beijing, particularly concerning Taiwan. He proposed that Russia and China establish discreet communication channels to counteract US influence and steer American decision-making in ways that could weaken Washington’s position.
Earlier, the Institute for the Study of War reported that the Kremlin is working to push US President Donald Trump into accepting Vladimir Putin’s demands while elevating Putin’s global standing.
