Seven Drone Strikes in 24 Hours: Russia Escalates Attacks on Ukrainian Rail Network

In the last 24 hours, Russian forces launched seven separate drone strikes targeting Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, according to Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko on January 30.
One of the attacks struck Synelnykove station in the Dnipropetrovsk region, causing significant damage to tracks, trains, and facilities, though no casualties were reported.
“Russia is deliberately striking our logistical routes—this is conscious terror against civilians and civil infrastructure,” Svyrydenko stated.
Damage at the Synelnykove site includes electric passenger cars, freight wagons, locomotives, rail lines, power grids, and administrative and operational buildings.
As a security measure, all trains that were scheduled to depart from Zaporizhzhia today have instead been rerouted from Dnipro, with passengers transported via buses provided by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Administration.
The strikes mark a continued shift in Russia’s targeting strategy, now focusing on logistics and civilian transportation rather than energy infrastructure. In his evening address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed this pattern, citing an early morning strike on a special Ukrzaliznytsia railcar equipped as a power station.
Despite these attacks, Zelenskyy noted that energy infrastructure remained mostly untouched, with the exception of a single airstrike on a gas facility in Donetsk region.
On the same day, the Kremlin said that US President Donald Trump asked the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, to refrain from strikes on Kyiv until February 1 to create favorable conditions for talks.
