Drone Lands Near Danish Defense Minister’s Home, Bomb Squad Rushes In

A drone found near the home of Danish Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus north of Copenhagen triggered a major police and military bomb-disposal operation on September 16. Roads were sealed off and specialists deployed before authorities determined that the aircraft was a harmless hobby drone.

According to The Copenhagen Post on September 16, police were investigating a suspicious incident on the street where Bruus lives in Gladsaxe. Military bomb-disposal technicians were sent to the area together with a Telemax robot designed to inspect potentially dangerous objects.

Local outlet Presse-fotos reported that Western Copenhagen Police, military explosive ordnance disposal specialists, and forensic officers were deployed in large numbers around the area. Roads were temporarily blocked, while nearby residents were reportedly asked to remain indoors.

The outlet initially reported, citing its sources, that a drone had been spotted in the area and may have come down near the minister’s home. At that stage, the drone’s origin was unknown. Images from the scene also showed a military bomb-disposal robot being used during the operation.

Police later confirmed that officers had recovered a drone and said there had been no danger to local residents.

“It was a hobby drone, which is assessed as harmless, and there has been no danger to residents in the area,” Western Copenhagen Police said, adding that the incident would still be investigated further.

Bruus also addressed the incident publicly, saying the heavy police presence resulted from the discovery of the drone and describing the investigation as normal procedure.

“I can inform you that it was a hobby drone and that everything is under control. The police are now packing up again. Everyone can feel safe,” Bruus wrote on X, according to Danish media.

The incident came amid heightened security concerns in Denmark. A day earlier, Denmark said a Russian Navy frigate had fired two flares toward a Danish Air Force Fennec helicopter conducting routine surveillance in international waters off Gedser, with one flare passing close to the aircraft. Copenhagen subsequently summoned Russia’s ambassador.
