15 Dead, Including Child, After Russia’s Overnight Massive Attack on Kyiv, Ukraine

At least 11 people, including a six-year-old boy, were killed following a large-scale Russian drones and missile attack on Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday, July 31, 2025.
The assault, described by officials as a “targeted terrorist strike,” hit over 27 locations across the capital.
The most severe damage was reported in the Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi districts. In Sviatoshynskyi, a nine-story residential building was struck directly, causing a partial collapse. Emergency crews from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service are currently working at the site, clearing rubble in hopes of reaching survivors trapped beneath the destroyed entranceway.

As of 10:25 a.m., the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported that the number of people injured as a result of a Russian airstrike on Kyiv increased to 82, 44 of them are already in the hospitals. Among them, at least 10 children were injured, the youngest of them is 5 months old.
UPD2. As of 11:02 a.m., Tkachenko stated that the number of people killed by the Russian airstrike on Kyiv on the night of July 31 increased to seven.
UPD3. As of 12:06 p.m., the number of injured in the Russian nighttime airstrike on Kyiv increased to 88, and a body of eight victims was pulled out of the rubble, Tkachenko stated.
UPD4. As of 1:05 p.m., the number of injured in Kyiv increased to 124 people, Tkachenko reported.
UPD5. As of 2:40 p.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the number of injured increased to 135 people, and there are 12 children among them. 30 people are hospitalized after a Russian attack.
UPD6. As of 4:45 p.m., Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that the number of people killed by the Russian strike increased to 11, including one child. August 1 has been declared a Day of Mourning in honor of the victims of the massive Russian strike.
UPD7. As of 8:50 p.m., Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that the number of people killed by the strike had risen to 15, including two children.
In addition, rescuers pulled a man out of the rubble of the collapsed building. He fell from the second floor to the first and was blocked by the damaged structural elements.
According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, rescue operations began shortly after 4:47 a.m. “We’re focusing on saving lives and setting up immediate aid routes. People are still under the rubble,” he said.
At least 52 people have been reported injured across Kyiv, with nearly 30 currently hospitalized. Nine of the injured are children.

The toll is expected to rise as emergency crews continue to assess the aftermath. In total, four fatalities were confirmed in Sviatoshynskyi and two in Solomianskyi, including the young boy. Additional casualties have been reported in Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, which also sustained heavy damage.
Officials have not ruled out further fatalities as the rescue operation continues. “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims,” Tkachenko stated.

The attack is the latest in a string of nighttime bombardments targeting Ukrainian cities, with Russia increasingly resorting to combined missile and drone strikes in urban areas far from the frontlines.
Earlier, on July 28, a Russian drone strike on Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district left eight people injured, including a three-year-old girl.
