Slovenia to Contribute $46 Million to Ukraine’s Air Defense via PURL Program

Slovenia has confirmed its participation in the PURL program and plans to allocate approximately $46 million by the end of the year to enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
The announcement was made by Ukraine’s Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal via Telgram on December 5.

“I held a meeting in Kyiv with Slovenian Defense Minister Borut Šahyovits. I thanked Slovenia for its support across all crucial areas, particularly for its involvement in the PURL initiative. This is a vital initiative to strengthen our capabilities, especially in air defense,” said Shmyhal.
The Ukrainian Minister also noted that Slovenia intends to allocate approximately 43 million euros by the year's end for the initiative.
“We focused on exploring ways to further develop our cooperation. We are prepared to share our experiences in the use of interceptor drones, deepstrike, and other UAV technologies,” Shmyhal added.
In addition, the two ministers agreed to explore the potential for joint industrial projects under European initiatives such as EDIP and SAFE, as well as within the "Danish model."
“We also discussed the possibility of providing training weapons for Ukrainian forces. Another key topic was the use of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine's defense,” Ukrainian Defense Minister concluded.
Earlier, Italy indicated a change in its stance on military aid to Ukraine, stating that it now views involvement in NATO's new US-led weapons procurement initiative for Kyiv as "premature" while talks regarding a possible ceasefire are ongoing.
