Spain Pledges New $1 Billion Military Aid Package for Ukraine in 2026

Spain will provide Ukraine with a new $1 billion military aid package in 2026, according to Militarnyi on March 18.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the pledge during a joint appearance with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Madrid, where both sides also advanced broader defense cooperation.
We bring you stories from the ground. Your support keeps our team in the field.
The new commitment adds another major tranche of support from Madrid as Ukraine presses allies to sustain military assistance into next year.
The package comes alongside fresh work on joint defense production, with the two countries moving forward on cooperation involving drones, radars, and missile-related projects. Zelenskyy highlighted air defense as a central priority.
Sánchez stated that Spain’s support for Ukraine would remain unchanged despite mounting instability in the Middle East and other global crises competing for attention.
Zelenskyy, for his part, stressed that expanding weapons production and reinforcing air defense remain essential to protecting civilians and maintaining pressure on Russia.

The military commitment also arrives alongside a broader expansion of Spain’s role in Ukraine’s recovery efforts.
The package will be administered through Spain’s new Office for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, launched after talks with Ukrainian officials on priority energy and infrastructure projects.
Kyiv documented the additional $235 million lifts Spain’s total support above $993 million, underscoring Madrid’s expanding role in Ukraine’s recovery as Russian attacks continue straining critical systems.
The reconstruction office is expected to serve as a single entry point for Spanish companies seeking work in Ukraine, with energy and logistics identified as immediate investment priorities.
Spanish officials are also considering opening a branch in Ukraine to better coordinate modernization and reform efforts on the ground. The latest pledge follows Madrid’s January approval of a $44.26 million contract for an Indra long-range tactical radar system for Ukraine, including logistical support through late 2026.
