Successful Cyberattack Reported by Ukrainian Military Intelligence
On September 7, 2024, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) executed a successful cyberattack on Russian resources, coinciding with the Day of Ukrainian Military Intelligence.
According to HUR, the attack targeted several Russian companies involved in the ongoing war against Ukraine and the development of Russia’s military infrastructure. The companies affected included SMKomplekt EK, KristElKom, KonturNIIRS, Chip-prof, Chelyabinsk Industrial Modernization Plant, Sibinstrument, among others. The Simferopol Forum was also targeted.
As a result of the operation, HUR specialists gained access to 14 servers, destroyed internal infrastructure of the attacked entities by erasing system files, databases, and backups. Additionally, messages celebrating the Day of Ukrainian Military Intelligence were posted on the websites of the attacked resources.
This cyberattack follows a large-scale operation in August by HUR, which blocked dozens of resources in Russia’s financial sector.
HUR frequently conducts cyberattacks on Russian resources as part of its efforts to counter aggression and support Ukraine’s national security.
