US President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are discussing a potential “mega deal” under which the US would purchase Ukraine’s battlefield-tested drones, while Kyiv would commit to buying a range of American weapons, Zelenskyy said.

In an exclusive interview with New York Post on July 17, Zelenskyy shared that his latest discussions with Trump centered on this potential breakthrough. The agreement would deepen cooperation between the two countries by boosting each other’s aerial capabilities — with Ukraine offering to share its hard-earned expertise from over three years of defending against Russia.

Such a deal could reshape the future of the US military. Experts have repeatedly warned that American drone technology is falling behind that of Russia and China, and that US forces remain poorly prepared to operate modern UAVs or counter them effectively.

“The American people need this technology in their arsenal,” Zelenskyy said, referring to Ukraine’s latest drones that have struck deep into Russian territory — hitting strategic bombers and targets up to 800 miles beyond the border.

“I think this is really a mega deal, a win-win, as they say,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump confirmed that shipments of Patriot missiles to Ukraine are already underway, with the costs covered by NATO allies and the European Union. He made the statement during a July 15 press briefing at Andrews Air Force Base when asked about the deliveries.

Earlier, it was reported that preparations are underway to rapidly deliver additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, NATO’s top military commander, General Alexus Grynkewich, said, as the country faces some of the most intense Russian air assaults of the war to date.
