On August 21, US President Donald Trump spoke with Todd Starnes Show podcast host about the war in Ukraine, suggesting that in about two weeks the United States could gauge the prospects for peace.

“Well, I’ll let you know in about two weeks, I’d say we’ll find out one way or another, and after that we may have to choose a different course, but we’ll see, but we’ll find out pretty soon,” Trump said.

On his Truth Social platform, he commented on Russia’s war against Ukraine:

“It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invader’s country. It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offense. There is no chance of winning! It is like that with Ukraine and Russia. Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out? Interesting times ahead!!!”

Trump also shared two historical photos: one with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and another from 1959 showing then-Vice President Richard Nixon and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. Observers have noted a similarity between the recent photo of Trump and Putin and the iconic “Kitchen Debate” between Nixon and Khrushchev.

The original exchange took place at the opening of the American National Exhibition in Moscow, where the two leaders discussed capitalism and communism in a model kitchen, marking one of the notable moments of the Cold War. Commentators drew parallels between the two images, noting the symbolism as Trump and Putin met to discuss potential steps toward ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

On August 21, following talks in Moscow with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine is openly showing little interest in achieving a sustainable and fair resolution to the war—hours after a nighttime terror attack.

Previously, it was reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a detailed front-line assessment with Trump, stressing that Donetsk must not fall and warning that the situation in Crimea demonstrates the cost.
