Türkiye has proposed hosting a high-level meeting between the leaders of the United States, Russia, and Ukraine—facilitated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan—following a potential second round of talks in Istanbul.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced the initiative during a visit to Kyiv, according to Hurriyet Daily News on May 30.

Fidan said a meeting between US President Donald Trump, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could follow the expected next round of Ukraine-Russia negotiations in Istanbul, which may take place as early as next week.

“We genuinely believe that the first and second rounds of direct talks in Istanbul could be followed by a meeting between Mr. Trump, Mr. Putin, and Mr. Zelenskyy under the leadership of Mr. Erdoğan,” Fidan stated.

He added that progress is “certainly possible, if we remain at the negotiating table.”

US President Donald Trump has previously expressed willingness to hold talks with Zelenskyy and Putin “if needed.”

Previously, Fidan, who arrived in Kyiv after his visit to Russia, briefed his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, on what he “heard and saw” in Moscow. Earlier, Fidan visited the Russian capital, where he met with Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation for talks with Ukraine.
