UK Allocates £30 Million to Support Ukraine’s Energy Sector
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, following a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Kyiv, expressed gratitude to London for allocating £30 million to support Ukraine’s energy sector.
Shmygal highlighted his appreciation for the recent military aid package announced by the UK last week, which includes air defense missiles valued at £162 million.
Additionally, he thanked Britain for its commitment of £30 million to bolster Ukraine’s energy industry, noting that the UK will assist in restoring energy facilities damaged by Russian attacks and in developing decentralized energy generation.
He also mentioned that the UK is committed to providing military support worth £3 billion annually for as long as necessary.
Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine is awaiting approval from the UK to use long-range weapons against military targets on Russian territory.
Previously, the European Commission recently announced an additional allocation of €40 million to Ukraine in response to ongoing Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. On September 5, the Swedish government also decided to direct nearly €44 million to support heating and energy supplies in Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in Kyiv earlier today for discussions with Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
