UK Confirms Extensive Use of British Weapons in Ukrainian Incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Defense Minister John Gealy have decided to openly acknowledge the use of British military equipment by Ukraine within Russian territory, in the Kursk region operation.
The Ukrainian military is employing drones supplied by Great Britain in operations within Russia’s Kursk region, the Sunday Times reports.
While the publication does not specify the drones' names or technical details, it emphasizes that they have “played a key role” in the incursion.
Additionally, British Challenger 2 tanks have been used by Ukrainians during the Kursk operation. This marks the first confirmed instance of British tanks, transferred to Ukraine, being utilized in combat on Russian soil, according to various British media outlets, including the BBC and Sky News.
“We will not shy away from the idea of using British weapons in Russia to protect Ukraine. We should be proud to have contributed something that helps Ukraine defend itself,” stated an unnamed source within the British government.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer further advocated for a broader scope of support for Ukraine.
To ensure a united British front, Defense Minister John Gealy, along with Foreign Secretary David Lammy, established a joint unit on Ukraine between their ministries. Gealy and Lemmy also held a joint briefing with officials for a cross-party group of 60 MPs on Ukraine at the Ministry of Defence.
“It is not only about military support, but also industrial, economic, and diplomatic support,” according to an unnamed source from the British government. “If Putin succeeds in Ukraine, he is not going to stop there. But the economic consequences of this are also huge.”
The only British weapon that Ukraine is currently unable to deploy on Russian territory is the Storm Shadow long-range missile.
Earlier, The White House spoke openly about providing Ukraine with the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM).
