The UK is “quickly formulating” plans to ready the entire nation for the potential outbreak of war.

This was reported by the armed forces minister Al Carns in a comment to SkyNews on December 12.

Highlighting the crucial role civilians would have in a large-scale war, Al Carns stated that while armies, navies, and air forces address crises, “societies, industries, and economies win wars.”

“The shadow of war is knocking on Europe's door once more. That's the reality. We've got to be prepared to deter it,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Britain is preparing to launch a new, multi-layered underwater surveillance and anti-submarine warfare network called Atlantic Bastion. This program, outlined by the UK Defence Journal, is seen as a significant move in redefining how the Royal Navy protects the seabed and vital infrastructure.

Meanwhile, analysts point out that the United Kingdom is unprepared for a drawn-out conflict, and it will take years for European manufacturing capabilities to reach the level of mass weapons production seen in Russia.

As reported by the BBC, Hamish Mundell, an expert at the Royal United Services Institute, expressed concerns about the UK's ability to sustain military operations beyond a few weeks in the event of a major escalation in Europe.

“There is little evidence that the UK has a plan to fight a war lasting more than a few weeks,” Mundell stated. “Medical capacity is limited. Reserve regeneration pipelines are slow… The British plan for mass casualty outcomes appears to be based on not taking casualties.”

Experts have highlighted the UK's vulnerability due to its dependence on undersea cables and pipelines, which are critical for data, energy, and financial transmissions. These infrastructures are increasingly susceptible to sabotage, with Russian spy vessels.

According to the BBC. Western Europe faces its own difficulties. Despite Russia’s continued weapons production, European factories are still years away from matching Russia's production scale,

Earlier, it was reported that the UK is closely tracking a Russian spy ship off the coast of Scotland, which is believed to be collecting intelligence on underwater infrastructure.

UK Defense Minister John Healey stated that the Russian vessel, suspected of gathering data on underwater systems, is currently located near Scotland's coast, and British authorities are closely monitoring its movements.
