Ukraine and Lithuania Partner on Joint Defense Production, Focus on Drones and Tech Exchange

Ukraine and Lithuania will launch joint production of defense products to strengthen the security of both countries, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced following a meeting in Kyiv with Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė on August 25.
The two sides signed a Letter of Intent on joint production of defense equipment in Lithuania and Ukraine. According to Shmyhal, the focus will be on establishing joint ventures, including the production of long-range drones.
“We discussed concrete prospects for industrial cooperation that open up thanks to the Letter of Intent. The document creates new opportunities for launching joint enterprises, expanding Ukrainian companies in Lithuania, and exchanging technologies,” Shmyhal said.

He thanked Šakalienė for her visit and emphasized that Lithuania will continue allocating 0.25% of its GDP for military assistance to Ukraine until 2027, calling it a strong signal of long-term support for Ukrainian defenders.
Talks also centered on attracting additional financing for arms procurement and further development of Ukraine’s defense industry.
Earlier, Denys Shmyhal announced that Ukraine had signed a Letter of Intent with Sweden on the joint production of military equipment.
He said that during his meeting with Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson in Kyiv on August 23, the two sides agreed to develop defense production in both countries and signed a document laying the groundwork for new joint projects.
