A Russian armored vehicle recently destroyed by Ukraine’s “Magyar’s Birds” drone unit turned out to be a converted cash-in-transit truck, according to open-source researcher Elmustek, who identified the wrecked vehicle in new battlefield footage on October 27.

The destroyed vehicle was built on the chassis of an International 4700 armored truck, a civilian model typically used for transporting money and valuables.

Before sending it into combat, Russian forces welded additional steel plates to the hull in a crude attempt to reinforce its armor. Despite the modifications, the vehicle was destroyed shortly after deployment.

The use of improvised vehicles such as this signals the extent of Russia’s battlefield losses and equipment shortages after nearly four years of war. Analysts note that Moscow’s forces increasingly rely on converted civilian trucks and vans to fill gaps in frontline transport and armored support.

The International 4700 armored truck, originally manufactured in the United States, is a heavy-duty platform powered by diesel engines such as the DT466 or MaxxForce DT, with either manual or automatic transmission and 4×2 or 4×4 configurations.

Designed for commercial security use, its standard features include an armored cab, bullet-resistant glass, reinforced steel panels, and optional defensive modifications like impact-resistant liners and weapon ports.

Earlier, Russia’s Ministry of Defense began auctioning off dozens of destroyed tanks and armored vehicles as scrap metal.

The auction includes T-80, T-72B3, and T-62 tanks, along with infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and MT-LB multipurpose armored tractors.
