Ukraine Intelligence Confirms Strike on Tu-22M3 Bomber at Olenya Airfield in Russia
On July 29, 2024, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) confirmed that a strike targeted the Russian Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region. According to HUR spokesperson Andriy Yusov, the attack resulted in damage to a strategic bomber, the Tu-22M3.
In an interview with the “United News” telethon, Yusov stated, “We do not comment on specific details, but we can confirm that there was a strike and damage to the strategic bomber. The Supreme Commander has noted the impressive range of this operation, which makes it clear where the direction of the strike was.”
Yusov emphasized, “This is indeed a significant achievement for the Main Intelligence Directorate. While we are not providing specifics on what exactly hit or where, we can confirm that the bomber was damaged as a result of the attack.”
Earlier reports indicated that on the night and morning of July 27, several military sites in Russia were attacked. This included airfields in Engels, Saratov region; Dyagilevo, Ryazan region; and Olenya, Murmansk region. Additionally, a refinery was reportedly damaged.
The Olenya airfield is located approximately 1,800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
