Ukraine is ready to extend a possible Easter ceasefire beyond the holiday, and that proposal has already been conveyed to the Russian side, according to Zelenskyy’s official statement on April 11.

Ukrainian president stated that Ukrainian officials had defined the parameters of Kyiv’s response to possible violations of any ceasefire by the Russian army and made clear that Ukraine would observe silence only on a reciprocal basis.

He emphasized that if Russia halts strikes in the air, on land, and at sea, Ukraine will not respond with force.

“Ceasefire on Easter could also become the beginning of a real movement toward peace — from our side, the relevant proposal is on the table,” Zelenskyy stated.

He added that Ukraine is prepared not only to observe such a pause but also to continue it after Easter, and that this position has been communicated to Russia.

At the same time, Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine’s military is prepared for any development at the front. He noted that Kyiv has repeatedly offered Russia different ceasefire formats and considers Easter a possible moment for a pause and security, with an Easter truce potentially marking the start of a real move toward peace.

Zelenskyy also noted that he discussed the procedure for Ukrainian units operating under ceasefire conditions with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He stated that the Russian side was informed of both the mirror nature of Ukraine’s actions and the possibility of prolonging the ceasefire beyond Easter.

Kyiv’s offer also coincided with a Kremlin-declared Easter pause, which was immediately hedged with warnings about possible provocations, while the Kremlin declared a temporary Easter truce in Ukraine, with Vladimir Putin ordering a halt to combat operations from 4:00 p.m. on April 11 until the end of April 12.

At the same time, the order instructed Russian forces to remain ready to repel any provocations or aggressive actions Moscow described.

The announcement followed earlier ceasefire messaging at the end of March, when President Volodymyr Zelenskyy backed an Easter pause and later sent a formal request through the US.

Skepticism remained after Russia declared a similar Easter truce last year, when Ukraine recorded more than 2,000 alleged violations within a single day.
