Ukraine is aiming to restore approximately 3 GW of energy capacity in its thermal and hydropower sectors in 2025 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its energy infrastructure, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on January 24.
“Last year, we restored nearly 4 GW of thermal and hydropower capacity. This year, we aim to restore an additional 3 GW,” Shmyhal said.
He highlighted that in 2024, Ukraine connected 233 power generation units with a combined capacity of over 830 MW. These included primarily gas-based systems, such as gas turbines, gas engines, and cogeneration units.
"We are continuing to build new facilities and expand distributed generation to meet local energy needs while creating a more resilient system less vulnerable to attacks," Shmyhal added.
Previously, it was reported that DTEK, Ukraine’s leading private energy company, revealed a €450 million investment to expand its Tyligulska Wind Power Plant near the Black Sea coast.
