Ukraine Receives More Zuzana 2s—155mm NATO Guns With 40km Range and $8M Price Tag

Germany has delivered three additional Zuzana 2 wheeled self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, bringing the total number of systems provided under a trilateral procurement initiative with Denmark and Norway to nine.
The German Ministry of Defense confirmed the delivery on May 6, marking a continued effort to strengthen Ukraine’s long-range artillery capabilities in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion.
According to Army Recognition on May 9, the initiative, jointly funded by Germany, Denmark, and Norway, includes the procurement of 16 Zuzana 2 systems from Slovak manufacturer Konstrukta Defense. It aims to accelerate battlefield supply while also supporting Slovakia’s defense sector.

The Zuzana 2 is built on the Tatra T815-7 8×8 wheeled chassis, known for its high mobility and off-road performance. Designed by Czech company Tatra Trucks, the platform allows the howitzer to operate effectively in varied terrain and relocate quickly to avoid counter-battery strikes.
The 8×8 configuration ensures stability and traction, enabling efficient shoot-and-scoot operations—a critical capability in modern artillery warfare.
The howitzer is equipped with a 155mm L/52 caliber gun, compliant with NATO standards, and can strike targets at ranges exceeding 40 kilometers using extended-range ammunition. An automatic loading system supports high rates of fire, including Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI), allowing multiple projectiles to hit a target simultaneously.
The turret is fully automated, and the vehicle features a digital fire control system, armored protection for the crew, and onboard storage for up to 40 rounds. Integrated GPS and inertial navigation systems ensure targeting accuracy even in degraded signal conditions.
Earlier in April, Germany delivered a major military aid package to Ukraine that included three Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers, alongside dozens of MRAPs, mine-clearing tanks, and advanced surveillance radars.
