Ukraine Reveals Who Built Its Palianytsia Cruise Missile With 650km Range

Ukraine has officially named Luch Design Bureau as the developer behind the domestically produced Palianytsia cruise missile, ending months of speculation about the system’s origins.
According to Defense Express on January 13, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha disclosed the manufacturer following a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart and representatives from the defense firms Luch and Fire Point.
In a statement, Sybiha noted it was “particularly pleasant to receive a model of the Palianytsia missile from Luch Director Oleh Korostelev as a symbol of our shared commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capacity through strategic partnership.”
As part of @EspenBarthEide’s visit, we held a meeting with the leadership of the Luch Design Bureau and the Fire Point company, prominent Ukrainian defense manufacturers.

This is the first official confirmation that the long-range weapon is being developed by the Kyiv-based state enterprise known for designing Ukraine’s Neptune anti-ship missile system.
As reported earlier by Defense Express, the Palianytsia cruise missile has a length of 3.5 meters, wingspan of 1.7 meters, and a launch weight of 320 kilograms. Its warhead weighs 100 kilograms, and its stated range is approximately 650 kilometers. The system uses both inertial and satellite navigation for guidance.
While further technical details remain undisclosed, the involvement of Luch suggests that certain design solutions previously implemented in the Neptune missile may have been adapted for the new platform.

The name Palianytsia was first officially mentioned on August 24, 2024, during Ukraine’s Independence Day celebrations.
Earlier, President Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine’s domestically produced Palianytsia rocket drone had successfully struck dozens of Russian targets, including ammunition depots. Developed independently from Soviet designs, the missile features a solid-fuel booster and jet engine, and is launched from a ground-based platform.
