Ukraine to Receive Six THeMIS Demining Drones for Explosive Clearance Operations

Ukrainian emergency services are set to receive six THeMIS-based engineering drones, a development facilitated by the Estonian company Milrem Robotics with support from the French government.
According to a press release from Milrem Robotics on May 20, these drones will first be delivered to the French company CNIM Systèmes Industriels, where they will be equipped with engineering tools before being handed over to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
The drones, known as ROCUS (Route Clearance Unmanned Systems), will be used for tasks such as the remote detection, identification, and decontamination of explosive devices, enhancing the safety of sappers.
These drones play a crucial role in demining operations, which are vital to restoring residential areas, agriculture, and civilian movement in Ukraine. According to Milrem Robotics, the addition of these six systems will double the fleet of THeMIS drones already in use by Ukraine, as six such systems have been deployed since 2022.

The THeMIS platform, a multi-purpose tracked vehicle, can be adapted with various systems depending on mission requirements. It has a maximum speed of 25 km/h, and it can be remotely controlled or programmed to move between specific points.
With compact dimensions—240 cm in length, 200 cm in width, and 115 cm in height—the THeMIS drone has a curb weight of 1,635 kg and a nominal load capacity of 750 kg, with a maximum of 1,200 kg.
This versatility allows the platform to serve as a cargo, evacuation, reconnaissance, or combat vehicle. Its battery life extends up to 15 hours, and it can be powered by either lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries.
In related news, Ukraine has received a formal request to export its domestically developed Delta battlefield information system to a NATO member state.
