Ukraine Urges OSCE to Increase Pressure on Russia After Ballistic Missile Strike on Dnipro
Ukraine called for increased pressure on Putin and his allies during a joint meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Forum for Security Cooperation and the Permanent Council, focusing on Russia’s use of strategic weapons in its aggression against Ukraine on November 27, Ukrainian MFA reported on November 28.
The meeting, convened by Malta’s OSCE chairmanship and Denmark’s leadership in the Forum for Security Cooperation, was requested by Ukraine following Russia’s November 21 intercontinental ballistic missile strike on Dnipro.
Ukraine’s delegation emphasized that the missile strike was another step by Russia to escalate the war through intimidation and coercion.
They pointed out that this escalation, combined with the involvement of North Korean troops, attacks on Ukraine’s nuclear energy facilities, and ongoing strikes of critical infrastructure, demonstrates Russia’s sole interest in continuing the war.
“The international community must respond swiftly and decisively to Russia’s expansion of the war. It is essential to increase pressure on Putin’s regime by strengthening international sanctions and closing any loopholes. This also applies to Russia’s allies, such as Iran, North Korea, and Belarus. The best response to Putin’s threats is to force him into a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace,” Ukraine’s delegation stated.
OSCE member states unanimously condemned Russia’s use of a new type of ballistic missile to strike one of Ukraine’s largest cities. Partners reaffirmed their commitment to providing Ukraine with essential aid, undeterred by Russia’s attempts to intimidate.
Earlier, The United Nations Security Council held an emergency session in response to Russia’s recent attacks targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
