Ukraine’s New Defense Minister Fedorov: “Our Main Security Guarantee Is Our Armed Forces”

Newly appointed Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has emphasized Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to secure peace while ensuring national defense remains intact during a speech in the Ukrainian Parliament on January 14.
“The people of Ukraine and President Zelenskyy want peace like no one else. Everyone is working toward this goal. We thank the US, the EU, and our partners for their assistance,” Fedorov stated, stressing that Russia remains the only party unwilling to pursue peace.

Ukraine’s main security guarantee, according to Fedorov, lies in its Armed Forces and the resilience of its people.
“We have already become a global leader in drone technologies, with our own fleet of drones, rockets, anti-drone systems, and Shahed interceptors,” he highlighted.
He also praised the bravery of Ukrainian soldiers, whose sacrifices have protected the nation and its future.
Fedorov acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine in its fight for peace, mentioning the need for comprehensive military reforms, such as overcoming outdated Soviet systems and reducing bureaucracy.
He outlined the achievements of his team, including the creation of new military solutions like the Army of Drones and Starlink satellite services, which have played a key role in the country’s defense.

Fedorov emphasized that the ultimate goal is to reform Ukraine’s military system, improve infrastructure on the frontlines, and eliminate corruption.
“Our aim is to build a system capable of halting the enemy’s advance, strengthening asymmetric and cyberattacks on Russia, and making the cost of war unbearable for them,” he said.
Fedorov also spoke about the integration of cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, into Ukraine’s military strategy, stating, “Artificial intelligence is already our ally in this war. We aim to make Ukraine the first country in the world capable of neutralizing enemy attacks using AI.”
He further stressed that Ukraine’s defense industry, particularly defense tech, will drive the country’s future growth and integration with international partners.
Previously, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov has been proposed to lead the Ministry of Defense.
“I have proposed Mykhailo Fedorov as the new Minister of Defense of Ukraine. He is deeply involved in the ‘Drone Line’ project and works effectively on the digitalization of state services and processes,” Zelenskyy said in an evening address.
