The upgrade was confirmed by Oleksandr Berezhnyi, Managing Director of Quantum Systems Ukraine, wrote Militarnyi on March 27, following the company’s investment in Ukrainian drone manufacturer WIY Drones, which produces the STRILA platform.

The planned STRILA-2 will integrate a compact solid-fuel rocket booster similar to the one used on Germany’s Jäger interceptor drone, developed by Quantum Systems. The booster enables rapid ascent to several kilometers in altitude, after which the drone transitions to sustained flight using four electric motors.

According to Militarnyi, Ukrainian developers will also gain access to artificial intelligence software used in Quantum Systems’ unmanned aerial vehicles, potentially enhancing target detection and interception capabilities.

The STRILA interceptor family is designed to engage aerial threats such as Shahed-type attack drones, high-speed reconnaissance UAVs, and other unmanned systems used by Russia.

In parallel with development efforts, Quantum Systems has secured an order to supply 15,000 STRILA interceptor drones to Ukraine’s National Guard, funded by the German government, according to Militarnyi. The partnership also includes plans to scale up production within Ukraine to meet operational demand, with the option of exporting surplus systems in the future.

Earlier, Ukrainian startup OSIRIS AI introduced the UEB-1 interceptor drone, capable of reaching speeds up to 315 km/h. Designed for autonomous aerial interception, the drone uses onboard AI to track and predict targets with minimal operator input, offering a range of up to 18 km and over 10 minutes of flight time.
