A Ukrainian-developed drone detection system, Vydun 7.5, is capable of identifying hostile UAVs and intercepting their analog video feeds at distances of up to 4 kilometers, offering 360-degree coverage on the battlefield.

According to Defense Express on March 26, the system was developed by the Ukrainian company Babai and is designed to operate across multiple frequency bands simultaneously while maintaining real-time updates to adapt to evolving battlefield conditions. The detector scans four frequency ranges at once, enabling faster identification of drone activity.

The company’s director described the system’s ability to process multiple video streams in parallel: “It displays on the screen, while video scanning runs in the background, and if detected, the operator can instantly switch between channels. No one in Ukraine does this. We can hold several streams, and it switches between them like a carousel.”

According to Defense Express, the Vydun 7.5 operates across frequency ranges of 910–2200 MHz, 2200–4040 MHz, 4867–6100 MHz, and 6000–7500 MHz. The system uses parallel scanning with a cycle time of 3 to 20 seconds depending on signal interference and operational mode.

Two detection algorithms are implemented: a rapid monitoring mode based on an updated signal database and a step-by-step scanning mode with adjustable frequency increments for detailed analysis.

The intercepted video feed is displayed on a 4.3-inch screen, while system parameters and detected frequencies are shown on a secondary display. The system also filters out civilian signals such as LTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi to reduce false detections.

The developer emphasized the importance of continuous software updates. As quoted by Defense Express, the company stated: “All our devices are computerized and receive remote firmware updates, like a phone. We updated the firmware, and anyone who wants can update to a newer version.” The updated versions include customizable scanning grids and audio alert settings.

The system is powered by a 10,000 mAh battery, allowing for 6 to 8 hours of continuous operation. It can be charged via standard power outlets, vehicle adapters, or portable power banks. The current version does not yet support LoRa signal interception, though the company plans to add this capability in future updates.

Explaining the limitation, the company director said: “We temporarily removed LoRa. In future releases, we will include it. The software is constantly improving, and early versions were not fully optimized. Adding LoRa  would overload the processor and drain the battery faster.”

According to Defense Express, the Vydun 7.5 entered service approximately four months ago following a three-month development and testing phase. Dozens of units are already in use on the front line, potentially approaching one hundred.

Earlier, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense on October 3, the DELTA digital command system was used as the primary platform during NATO’s REPMUS 2025 exercise, coordinating over 100 unmanned systems across air, sea, land, and underwater domains—highlighting the growing role of Ukrainian battlefield technologies designed to detect, track, and manage drone operations in real time.
