Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi held a video conference with US Army Europe and Africa Commander General Christopher Donahue to discuss the latest frontline developments, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on their Telegram channel on September 23.

During the conversation, General Syrskyi highlighted the ongoing challenges, noting that despite Russia’s numerical superiority and high concentration of firepower in certain areas, the Russian army has failed to turn the situation to their advantage.

“The skillful maneuvers and counterattacks of Ukrainian units thwarted Russian offensive plans in the spring-summer campaign,” Syrskyi said.

The situation remains tense, with Russia continuing to launch missile and air strikes targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and civilian areas. Syrskyi emphasized the urgent need for more effective defense capabilities to protect Ukraine’s people, industries, and territories.

“To protect our people, our enterprises, and our territory, Ukraine needs more effective air defense systems, missiles, electronic warfare systems, and other modern weapons systems,” he said.

He also underscored the importance of continued collaboration with US partners to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the broader context of Euro-Atlantic security.

“We are working to continue cooperation with our American partners to support the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the interests of security throughout the Euro-Atlantic area,” Syrskyi stated.

As part of ongoing support, General Syrskyi thanked General Donahue, as well as the US government and people, for their steadfast assistance, which includes upcoming deliveries of weapons, military equipment, and ammunition under the PURL  packages for September-October 2025.

Previously, Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Ukraine’s Defense Forces continued offensive operations on the Dobropillia axis.

“Over the past day, Ukrainian forces regained control of 1.3 km² and carried out search-and-destroy operations against the enemy across 2.1 km² in Pokrovsk district, Donetsk region,” he stated.
