Ukrainian Civilian Light Aircraft Turned Into Combat Drone Bombs Russian Positions, Video

Ukraine begun using modified light aircraft drones to drop bombs on Russian military positions along the frontline, Ukrainian defense outlet Militarny reported on February 27.
Footage of the attacks was shared by the Russian Telegram channel “Technik BPLA,” showing a small aircraft flying at low altitude before a detonation is heard, indicating a bomb drop on Russian positions.
These long-range strike drones, converted from civilian light aircraft, are now being deployed for nighttime bombing raids.
Flying at extremely low altitudes allows them to evade radar detection and missile defenses, though it exposes them to anti-aircraft fire. Despite taking small-arms fire, the drone in the video was able to exit the strike zone.
Ukraine has been using similar drones for deep strikes inside Russia, including suicide aircraft and reusable bombers.
In late January, one such drone dropped a 250-kilogram bomb on the Novozybkov oil pumping station in Russia’s Bryansk region. Reports also indicate the use of smaller munitions, such as the OFAB-100-120 bomb.

These drones are equipped with advanced electro-optical targeting systems for both daytime and nighttime operations. The Ukrainian military’s 14th Unmanned Systems Regiment, which specializes in deep-strike missions, is among the units operating them.
Aircrafts such as the E-300 SkyRanger and A-22 Foxbat have been repurposed for strike missions, reinforcing Ukraine’s growing reliance on drone warfare to counter Russia’s advantages on the battlefield.
Earlier, reports emerged that Portuguese drone manufacturer TEKEVER was enhancing its unmanned aerial systems (UAS) based on battlefield experience gained from Ukraine’s full-scale war.
