Ukrainian Drones Strike $27 Million Russian Tor-M2 Air Defense System, Video
Ukrainian drones successfully struck a Russian Tor-M2 air defense system in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to a video released on the official Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Drone Forces Command on December 5.
The Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system was located and targeted by operators of the 412th Separate Nemesis Drone Battalion. The system was detected while moving under the cover of darkness in a temporarily occupied area.
Footage from the video shows a heavy multirotor drone bomber releasing a free-fall munition directly onto the air defense system while it was in motion. The munition hit the rotating upper section of the vehicle, where the radar and missile launch system are located.
While thermal imaging footage captured by the drone makes it difficult to assess the full extent of the damage, the strike appears to have left the Tor-M2 in need of repairs, rendering it temporarily inoperable.
The Tor-M2 is a self-propelled, autonomous air defense system capable of detecting and engaging aerial targets up to 16 kilometers away and at altitudes of up to 10 kilometers.
It is equipped with 16 vertically launched surface-to-air missiles housed in a rotating launcher, and its crew typically consists of 3 operators.
Earlier, Ukrainian elite reconnaissance unit Kabul 9 destroyed a Russian BM-27 Uragan multiple rocket launcher in the Zaporizhzhia region.
