Ukrainian Forces Shoot Down Russian Su-34 Fighter-Bomber Near Zaporizhzhia

Ukraine’s Defense Forces shot down a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber over the Zaporizhzhia axis on the morning of September 25, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Telegram.
The aircraft was downed at around 4 am while conducting strikes on Zaporizhzhia with guided aerial bombs.
According to the Air Force, the Su-34 was engaged in terrorist attacks targeting the city when it was intercepted and destroyed.

This is not the first time Russian tactical aviation has suffered losses. A Russian military blogger recently claimed that a Ukrainian F-16 may have shot down a Su-34, which could mark the first confirmed instance of a Western-supplied fighter jet destroying a Russian piloted aircraft.
A new investigation has also revealed that Russia’s modern fighter jets—the Su-34 and Su-35S, both designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau—are heavily dependent on Western-made electronics despite years of international sanctions. Researchers identified and traced the origin of 1,115 out of 1,119 electronic components used in these aircraft.

The majority of these parts were found to originate from leading US companies, including Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Intel, Maxim, Vicor, and OnSemi. Additional manufacturers include Murata (Japan), as well as firms in Germany, Taiwan, and South Korea.
Earlier, Ukrainian drones carried out an overnight strike, targeting a military airfield in Buturlinovka, Voronezh region, which houses Russia’s 899th Guards Assault Aviation Brigade.
The base, located about three kilometers from the town and roughly 200–250 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, was reportedly hit after drones bypassed its air defense systems, with local residents reporting around 15 explosions during the attack.
