Ukrainian High Jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh Claims 20th Diamond League Victory in China

Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed her 20th career Diamond League victory, triumphing at the opening event of the 2025 season in Xiamen, China.
According to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine on April 26, Mahuchikh was the only athlete to clear 1.97 meters, securing the win in the women’s high jump competition.
Australia’s Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers both cleared 1.94 meters, with Patterson taking second place due to fewer attempts.
Mahuchikh’s victory in Xiamen marked her first official competition of the outdoor season and her first appearance following an injury sustained during the 2025 World Indoor Championships, where she won bronze.

After clinching the win, she remained in the sector to attempt a height of 2.03 meters but was unsuccessful in all three attempts.
The competition unfolded as anticipated between Mahuchikh and the Australian athletes. Both Mahuchikh and Olyslagers entered the event at 1.91 meters, clearing the height on their first attempts.
At 1.94 meters, the trio of Mahuchikh, Patterson, and Olyslagers remained in contention, but Mahuchikh was the only one to successfully clear 1.97 meters.
Ukrainian athlete Yuliia Levchenko finished fourth with a season-best jump of 1.91 meters. Levchenko edged out Britain’s Morgan Lake and Germany’s Christina Honsel and Imke Onnen, who also cleared 1.94 meters but recorded more failed attempts.

The Diamond League’s 2025 season will consist of 15 international stages, concluding with the final in Zurich at the end of August. The next event is scheduled for May 3 in Shanghai, where Mahuchikh and Levchenko are both expected to compete.
Mahuchikh first won a Diamond League stage in May 2019. The prize fund for the 2025 Diamond League season has been increased to $9.24 million.
Earlier this year, Mahuchikh opened her 2025 season with a gold medal at the Udin Jump Development tournament in Italy, continuing her momentum after winning Olympic gold, setting a world record, and securing European and Diamond League titles in 2024.
