On September 21, the women’s high jump final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo concluded with Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers winning gold, Poland’s Maria Żodzik taking silver, and Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh sharing bronze with Serbia’s Angelina Topić. Another Ukrainian, Yuliia Levchenko, finished fifth.

According to Champion.ua on September 21, the competition began at 1.88 meters, cleared by 15 of 16 participants.

Both Mahuchikh and Levchenko advanced confidently through the early heights. At 1.97 meters, only six athletes remained, including the two Ukrainians, Olyslagers, Żodzik, Topić, and Australia’s Eleanor Patterson.

Before heavy rain forced the first suspension of the event, Olyslagers cleared 2.00 meters on her first attempt. Mahuchikh, Levchenko, and others failed their initial attempts.

After the pause, Żodzik succeeded on her third attempt, while Levchenko and Patterson exited the competition, sharing fifth place.

As Sport.ua reported, Mahuchikh made a tactical decision to transfer her two remaining attempts from 2.00 to 2.02 meters, hoping for improved conditions. However, a second rain delay disrupted the competition.

When it resumed, none of the athletes managed to clear 2.02 meters. With her earlier success at 2.00 meters, Olyslagers secured her first world title. Żodzik claimed silver on countback, and Mahuchikh tied for bronze with Topić at 1.97 meters.

According to Sport.ua, this marks Mahuchikh’s fourth consecutive World Championships medal, while Levchenko achieved her best result since her silver in 2017. For Olyslagers, the victory was her first gold medal after winning bronze at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.

Earlier in April, Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed her 20th Diamond League victory in Xiamen, China, after clearing 1.97 meters. She outperformed Australia’s Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers, who both managed 1.94 meters.
