Ukrainian assault troops carried out a high-risk rescue mission deep behind enemy lines, saving two soldiers who had been cut off after holding their position for nearly a year.

Fighters from the 425th “Skelya” Separate Assault Regiment stepped in to extract their comrades who had become encircled, the unit said on March 30.

According to the report, two Ukrainian service members from the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade, known by their call signs “Logan” and “Hlukhyi,” had been defending a key position along the Kramatorsk axis, guarding a highway leading toward Sloviansk.

Over time, enemy forces shifted tactics. Rather than launching a direct assault and risking heavy losses, they maneuvered around the Ukrainian position, effectively leaving the two defenders trapped behind enemy lines.

“We were well dug in. The fortifications were solid. We worked on them for a long time, and it was very hard,” Logan said.

Eventually, Skelya’s command organized a rescue operation. The first to reach the stranded soldiers was an assault fighter with the call sign “Sedoy,” who advanced approximately 15 kilometers into enemy-controlled territory to make contact.

The return journey proved even more grueling. The group spent three full days making their way back under constant threat from artillery fire and drone surveillance.

Despite the dangers, the soldiers successfully broke through and reached Ukrainian defensive positions.

Earlier, Ukrainian assault units from the Skala regiment cleared the village of Minkivka, a key position along the Bakhmut–Sloviansk route, in an operation aimed at stabilizing the frontline and disrupting Russian offensive plans.

The assault allowed Ukrainian forces not only to regain control of the settlement but also to halt further Russian attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian defensive lines.
