China seeks to create conditions for resolving the “Ukraine crisis” by encouraging all sides to reach mutually acceptable agreements and will support any efforts aimed at a peaceful settlement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference, Ukrinform reported on March 7.

“Our position on Ukraine has always been objective and impartial, our voice has been calm and balanced, and our goal is to create conditions and reach a consensus for a peaceful resolution of the 'Ukraine crisis',” Wang stated.

He emphasized that China welcomes and supports all efforts to restore peace but stressed the need to understand the complex causes of the crisis.

“As a Chinese proverb says, it takes more than one cold day to freeze three feet of ice, and melting it cannot happen overnight. No one wins in conflict, but everyone wins in peace. The conflict ends and peace begins at the negotiating table,” he noted.

Despite the lack of an agreed position between Ukraine and Russia on ending the war, Wang said all sides hope for a fair and lasting peace agreement that will be binding and accepted by all.

“This is a valuable starting point that all parties should strive for. China is ready to work with the international community to continue playing a constructive role in resolving the crisis and achieving lasting peace,” he said.

He added that lessons must be learned from this conflict, particularly the principle that security must be mutual and equal, and no country should build its security at the expense of another. “We must act according to a new vision of shared, comprehensive, and sustainable security—this is the path to true, lasting peace in Eurasia and beyond,” Wang concluded.

Earlier on March 6, China’s special representative for European affairs, Lu Shaye, expressed surprise at U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach toward America’s European allies, stating that a peace deal for Ukraine should not be dictated solely by the United States and Russia.
