Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed plans for a meeting with US President Donald Trump by the end of January. The announcement came during a press briefing on January 3 following consultations with national security advisors from allied countries.

Zelenskyy stated that preliminary talks are underway involving military leadership and defense representatives from multiple nations.

These discussions are aimed at finalizing security documents and preparing a framework for high-level political dialogue focused on Ukraine’s long-term security and postwar recovery.

“After that, there will be a meeting of leaders, and the security documents will be finalized,” Zelenskyy said, adding that talks will center on “security guarantees and recovery.”

The Ukrainian president noted that military delegations—including chiefs of general staffs and defense officials—are scheduled to travel to Europe on January 4 to continue coordination efforts. Meetings with Trump’s team are also expected to take place in Paris shortly afterward.

“These meetings will last a day or maybe two, depending on how things develop,” Zelenskyy explained. “After that, I believe we will prepare for a broader leadership-level meeting in the United States. We would like all of this to happen within January, before the month ends.”

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the United States had, for the first time, indicated it may provide Ukraine with security guarantees that could include the presence of American troops. Tusk called the move a reason for optimism and linked it to ongoing negotiations between Zelenskyy and Trump, including their December 28 meeting in Florida.
