Zelenskyy Holds Productive Talks With NATO Chief on Boosting Ukraine’s Defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he had a productive conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to a post on Ukrainian President’s official Telegram channel on August 5.
During their discussion, Zelenskyy highlighted that over the past two days, NATO member countries have contributed more than a billion dollars towards purchasing American weaponry for Ukraine, demonstrating the success of NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) initiative and the implementation of decisions made at the Hague summit.
“In two days, we have already received over a billion dollars from our European partners—NATO members—for the purchase of American weapons. This proves that NSATU is working and that the decisions of the Alliance's Hague Summit are being implemented. I thanked Mark for this,” Zelenskyy writes.

He thanked Rutte for these contributions and shared updates about ongoing diplomatic efforts to boost Ukraine's defense support. Zelenskyy also informed Rutte about the intensified Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kharkiv, and discussed the needs of Ukrainian troops on the front lines.
“I reported to him on the situation in Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities that Russia is shelling more intensively, on the situation at the front, and on the needs of our soldiers,” President stated.
The leaders also touched on broader diplomatic work with international partners, mentioning positive proposals for increasing cooperation and support for Ukraine, with plans to move forward with these efforts.
Mark Rutte also shared his thoughts on a call with Zelenskyy in a post on X.
Good call with President @ZelenskyyUa welcoming over $1bn in funding from Allies ( 🇩🇰 🇳🇱 🇳🇴 🇸🇪 ) for US equipment for Ukraine, coordinated by NATO. This support is essential to save lives, help Ukraine defend itself, and achieve a just & lasting peace.
